As we all know, in recent years, EU and Russian enterprises have suspended cooperation in the energy industry. On the one hand, European countries are in a situation of power shortage, and on the other hand, Russia's economic situation is in a dilemma of stagnation. But fortunately, Russia has a close friend, China. Now, China has taken over most of Russia's coal and natural gas that should have been transported to Europe, easing Russia's economic problems. It is precisely in this case that it is clear who can be relied on and who is a true friend at a glance, and the Russian media said frankly: "I regret not building two more Sino Russian railways in my early years."
The trade between China and Russia has broken through the 1 trillion mark, but how to transport goods has become a problem
According to media reports, in the first ten months of this year alone, the total trade volume between China and Russia has exceeded the threshold of 1 billion yuan, setting the latest record in history. In terms of trade, the cooperation scale of energy resources such as oil, coal and natural gas is the largest. In the first eight months of this year alone, China imported 33.2 million tons of coal from Russia, a year-on-year increase of 20%.
It can be said that in terms of energy cooperation, we and Russia are mutually beneficial. Therefore, Russia said that it would pay more attention to the Asian market, especially the Chinese market, and would export to us at a lower price than previously exported to Europe. For energy cooperation, we have always been very happy, but now there is a problem that falls on us and Russia, that is, transportation.
Inadequate railway transport capacity led to a loss of 150 million rupees for Russia
During the cooperation, both sides have always been smooth, and nothing unpleasant has happened. However, after the cooperation, the problem of cargo transportation has become a headache. As we all know, Russia and the EU had the most energy cooperation before, so they have always attached great importance to the construction of the transportation network in the west, while the construction of the transportation network in the east did not care. As a result, the transportation lines between China and Russia are not perfect, so the ability to transport goods is not strong.
According to Russian media, 80 million tons of goods originally shipped to China from January to August this year failed to arrive due to imperfect railway and road facilities, resulting in losses of more than 150 million rubles. In addition, the transportation pressure of the Sino Russian railway is very great now, and the goods to be transported have exceeded the original railway capacity by 19 times. In this regard, the relevant Russian enterprises and media are very sad. They regret that they did not build two more transportation lines to connect China earlier.
As we all know, the Russian Ukrainian crisis and the subsequent European and American sanctions have a profound impact on Russian railway companies. Oleg Belozerov, president of Russia Railway Company, talked about the company's situation on the 15th. One of the core contents he disclosed was that almost half of the foreign trade transport volume loss caused by the sanctions of Russia Railway had been compensated by other markets through the adjustment of cargo flow.
Really?
Oleg Belozerov said: "This year, the Russian railway company mainly responded to the change of logistics direction due to the diplomatic situation. 7600 locomotive crew members were transferred to various parts of the railway network, and about 450 locomotives were redeployed to new sections to match the changing freight flow."
According to Belozelov, Russia Railway also handled the new requirements of 15000 shippers due to logistics changes this year. "It is necessary for us to meet the unique requirements of customers, simplify the contract work system and ensure the transportation rhythm."
He gave a more important data: since this year, the loss of freight volume of Russian railway to so-called unfriendly countries has reached 125 million tons, but the freight volume to friendly countries has increased by 60 million tons. Belozelov also said that the international north-south freight corridor (INSTC) pushed by Russia showed obvious market vitality.
In addition, the head of the Russian railway company apologized for the difficulty in exporting goods through the Far East port. He said that Russia Railway is increasing its transport capacity through technical measures, among which the number of goods transported by double container trains is increasing.
The geopolitical influence is still enormous
In spite of this, the loss of Russia's logistics and transportation industry caused by geographical conflicts and sanctions is still obvious from the perspective of warehouse transaction volume and warehouse utilization
On Tuesday, NF Group, an industry consulting company, said that since the beginning of this year, under the background of foreign companies leaving, the trading volume of transport and logistics companies in the Russian warehouse real estate market has decreased by one third.
The research report points out that the trading volume of transportation and logistics companies in the first nine months of 2022 is 266000 square meters, lower than 392000 square meters in the same period of 2021, but higher than 197000 square meters in the same period of 2020.
From January to September, the utilization rate of warehouse space of logistics operators dropped from 94.4% to 91%. NF, a consulting company, believes that after the high demand period at the beginning of the year, the turnover of customers has generally decreased.
According to the survey, 30% of the operators admit that the business volume of foreign customers has decreased, 50% of the operators say that there is no change, and 20% of the operators say that the business volume of foreign customers has increased.
In addition, "some foreign logistics operators have changed their ownership to Russian legal entities and continue to provide services, while others continue to pay storage service fees, but the business volume of warehouse inventory goods of these operators has decreased significantly."
The research report points out: "Under the current conditions, risks still exist. When foreign customers make a decision to terminate their business, the vacancy rate of logistics operators' warehouses will increase."
